ByBishalRai,,,November 7, 2020, Biden became the president-elect for the 46th president of the United States of America with 290 electoral colleges votes and the most popular votes (more than 74 million and counting ) of any presidential candidates in history. The previous most votes in presidential election was also set by Obama/Biden in 2008.
Now the most tumultuous election process is over.

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.( Joe Biden) was born on November 20, 1942 and now he is the oldest (77) president elect ever by breaking president Donald Trump’s record as he took the office at the age of 70 in 2016. However his political career started in 1972 when he was elected for US senator at the age of 29 ,legal age to be US senator is 30, so he had to wait till next year to serve in the office. He continued as senator until he entered the Obama administration as a vice president in 2009. He proved to be the strong horse for the long race. It should be so amazing to be in the political limelight for almost half a century as an influential and powerful political person. He did not crossed all the way through rosy path to the White House .
Biden ran for President two times before 2020, in 1987 and 2008 .The first time his chance was high , but he had to quit after it was revealed that he plagiarized the speech from Neil Kinnock, the then popular British labor party leader .He again kicked off his second attempt for the president 20 years later in 2008 primary, but dropped out after he garnered only 1 percent of the delegates in the Iowa Democratic caucuses, later he served as the 47th vice president of the United States in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2017. In 2020 primary, he fought very hard against Bernie Sanders .Eventually he achieved his highest political ambition after serving 36 years in the senate and 8 years as VP.
Nevertheless, It seems colossal political tasks just right in front of Biden administration . The global pandemic forced to nosedive the world economy as well as US economy . US is facing the worst economic crisis as comparable as the great depression of 1929. On top of that he is going to inherit the whole mess created by Trump administration at home and around the world.
He has challenges on his path to be portrayed like president Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s (FDR) modus operandi which rescued America from the great recession of 1929 by creating the ‘New Deal’ and led the second world war successfully . I hope Biden’s longest political experiences and compassionate leadership definitely help to uplift America’s soul to the utmost level again.
In my opinion there are six major reasons for Biden’s victory. They are as followings.
1.Campaign itself..
Joe Biden launched his campaign for presidential nominee on April 29, 2019 and became the official nominee of the Democratic party on August 18, 2020 in Democratic National Convention. He was portrayed as a progressive candidate with positioning himself for protecting or solidifying statute for Row V. Wade(woman abortion right), expansion of healthcare (Obama care), universal pre school, free community colleges ,rebuilding and creating more inclusive economy , rejoining the Paris Climate Accord which was negotiated by Obama/Biden administration in 2015. He also unveiled $2 trillion Climate Plan which could be the roadmap to the ’New Green Deal’; legislation laid out by Alexandria Ocasio Cortez(AOC) and Markey recently.
Biden apparently ran the great campaign . He had been leading in every poll consistently since he entered the race. His campaign raised a record breaking $383 million in September alone and had more than double cash in hand than Trump which put Biden campaign in clear advantage for winning the undecided voters in final week campaign ads. In 2020 ,Biden campaign drew more attention of the people in every front.
One of my friend Mr Khagendra Ghimire, the manager at popular Indian/Nepali cuisine restaurant ‘Namaste Chicago’, in Logan Square , Chicago who supports Biden/Kamala ticket diligently says, ” How could Biden not be one of the most clean and good politician , after his almost half a century in politics , the most rogue opponent could not find any dirts on him for the so called ‘October surprise’ except the very false story i.e. Guiliani’s conspiracy about his son Hunter Biden’s laptop ?. One the other hand , look at the choas or records of Trump within just 4 years. “

2.Policy and Plan…
If we see the history of American presidency , people always supported the incumbent president overwhelmingly in the time of national or international crisis but people want to see the concrete policies and plans ahead to solve it . Trump never showed any plans to fight against the COVID19 and policies for recovering the crippled economy . On the contrary, Biden brought preemptive plans to defeat the virus(whatever it takes) and Climate Plan which I already mentioned above to deal with economic and environment crisis along the racial justice. Trump administration’s family separation policy in the border detention centers outraged world wide which was called inhumane act and condemned by many international human rights organization. But Biden promised to sign an executive order on his first day of the office for reuniting those migrant family which were separated by Trump administration.
People found the policies of Biden regarding national security, immigration reform, healthcare and rebuilding foreign relationship are more promising than Trump’s .
3.Trump’s Anti-Science rhetoric…
Trump is the most anti-science president in modern history of the USA. He said that the climate change was a hoax and withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord . A hundred of environmental regulations were rolled back by Trump’s administration. His anti-science behavior did not impact much in 2016 campaign. Instead it helped him . So he continued that attitude in response to COVID19 which became the first global pandemic in 21th century with 49.8M cases and 1.25M deaths and counting but this time as president , he is considered to be solely responsible for the most cases(9.83M) and deaths(237K) in the USA. Trump himself contracted COVID19 and recovered after having the most advanced world class treatment .Despite Dr. Anthony Fauci’s( one of the most prominent virus experts) warning , Trump did not stop his maskless rallies . The last week just before the election , the corona virus cases hit the record high since it became the global pandemic. So many people voted against him just to stop this pandemic as soon as possible . While Trump administration was considering firing of Dr. Fauci , Biden said ,” I will hire Dr. Fauci …and fire Trump.” in his final campaign rally. The master mind of Trump Presidency , Steve Bannon’s twitter account is just suspended today for his dangerous comments on Dr. Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray for beheading.
As a matter of fact, Biden got endorsements from the most of the scientists and Nobel laureates in the history.
4.COVID19…
Of course, COVID19 pandemic and how Trump had been handling was the only most crucial issue of the 2020 election which brought President Trump into defensive situation . However Trump downplayed this global plague from the very beginning and never admitted his fault which ultimately ended his presidency whereas Biden never missed the chances of attacking on this issue like hit where it hurts the most.
Ironically , the White House listed ending the global pandemic was one of Trump administration accomplishments. Biden always tried to hold Trump accountable for mishandling of the crisis . He showed the compassion to the people, who suffered the most due to coronavirus by relating to his own story of losing near or dear ones. In fact, he lost his first wife and daughter in an auto accident at the very outset of political career and then his elder son Beau Biden also died in 2015 from brain cancer. In this way , Biden presented himself as a very strong and compassionate leader to deal with the COVID19 crisis.
5.Running mate Kamala Harris…
Biden’s one of the best decisions was picking kamala Harris as his vice presidential candidate. She is a daughter of Indian/Jamaica immigrants , fearless fighter for racial and economic justice, a progressive attorney general (of California), healthcare reformer and the most prominent Democratic senator who also ran for presidential nomination for 2020. Her progressive character and diverse background boosted the real base of the Democratic party . Now Kamala Harris made the history of becoming the first African-Indian-American woman vice president of the United States. People are also speculating that Biden could be one term president because of his age and Kamala Harris will run for president in 2024 but the question is , ‘Will America be ready for another African-American and woman president ?’
5.Bernie Sanders…
Biden was trailing behind Bernie in the very beginning of the Democratic primaries . However on super Tuesday , the primary was heavily tilted toward Joe Biden . Bernie is the most progressive independent senator , proclaimed himself socialist, had so many stalwart followers and was fighting for the most progressive agenda in modern political history of America. It was very hard to get Bernie’s supporters along but unlike 2016 , Bernie ended his presidential campaign and endorsed Biden which allowed him more time to convince those people. Bernie name was also floating around to be the secretary of labour under Biden Administration.

6.Obama’s Involvement in Biden campaign …
Biden served as vice president in Obama administration from 2008 to 2016. During their tenure they forged a very strong bond to each other. Obama was campaigning for Biden as it was his own. He engaged in all out political war against Trump . Even in the election eve , he was campaigning for Biden in Florida to fire up the voters . Florida was one of the most crucial battle grounds between Biden and Trump in 2020 but unfortunately Biden lost it.. Former first lady Michelle Obama also left no stone unturned to encourage the voters by her inspirational speeches.
